Obviously with all these blizzards and dreary weather my thrifting has taken a hit. I don't want to go anywhere for anything, period. I did manage to slip out the other day when the weather decided to be decent (for literally three hours) and get my thrift on. I'm really happy with my finds this week, so all in all the venture was a success. I found a mate to my beautiful embroidered pillow, you may remember it from this post. I've been looking for a match since I bought the first one, so when I laid my eyes on it's square twin I knew it had to be mine. They look glorious on my couch together, yippee!
I also picked up a new thermos for my ever growing collection, score! I cant wait until we have a house so I can put them all on display. This cheese tray was also an amazing find, I am a cheese lovahhhh. I'm so excited to up-cycle this bad boy and put together the perfect cheese platter for date night with the hubby!

Did you find any amazing vintage pieces this week? Thrift any amazing dresses or accessories? Link them up with us and meet fellow thrifters just like you!

And don't forget that sponsorships are now open and ready to be filled! Come join the hive today! There is a promo code on the side bar for a little discount on your ad space and I have a lot of exciting things planned for March, you don't want to miss it!

Since I wrapped up all of my orders for the beginning of the year I started on a project spree. I've been finishing up projects that have been "in process" for a long time, like Marli's blanket which is almost complete. I've also been working on some new scarf designs for the handmade shop. I know, I know, scarf season is almost over...I am known for horrible timing. At least I'll have plenty in stock for the rest of the year! Here's a little taste of what's in my yarn bag as of lately.
I recently started a chunky wool granny square throw for Hunter's room, I love the color combination and this yarn is so soft!
This is one of the new scarf designs I'm working on for the shop! Who isn't a fan of chevron? I'm working on a few different color combinations for this look, let me know what colors you would like to see!
A little peek at Marli's blanket and some hoop art that I have been working on for ages! One day it will hang in her room but who knows when that day will be!
The last of my treat orders complete for the time being. This set of cupcakes turned out really sweet.
What's in your yarn bag lately? I get so many lovely comments from all of my readers about my knit and crochet projects so I would love to return the favor! Share your current projects with me in comments below or use hash tag #gypsybeestitches on instagram and twitter and I may feature one of your projects in my next Current Projects post! I can't wait to see what all the handmade goodness you are working on!

Spring Fever!

Tuesday, February 26, 2013

I've been a big fan of TREASURY TUESDAYS over on Tea Tree so I decided to take a whack at making my own Etsy Treasury. I haven't shared some of my Etsy favorites for awhile so included items from some of my absolute favorite shops. This list is full of lovely things to get me ready for spring! I am dying to get some Vitamin D guys! Missouri weather is so depressing, we get a little hint of sunshine and then we are bombarded with snow and gloomy skies for the next three days. This state needs to get with the program.
This cute items remind me that brighter skies are ahead!

Marli Turns Four!

Sunday, February 24, 2013

Friday was my little girls fourth birthday! Whoa! We threw her a little party yesterday to celebrate with friends and family and she had a fantastic time. All the girls played dress up and even Hunter wore a party hat. We enjoyed hot dogs, cotton candy, pink lemonade, and of course cake! My mom did a great job making Marli's cake, it was perfect for her circus themed party! All in all a great time was had, Marli was spoiled like a little princess. I wish I would have gotten more pictures but my camera wasn't working well and Marli did not want her picture taken pretty much all day so this is what I have to work with. At least I got time to enjoy the party as well instead of being behind the camera or in the kitchen, that's what I call a successful party!

Well this is the last Extra Large Sponsor spotlight of the season! Next Saturday I'll be doing a Greatest Hits post featuring all of my large sponsors and then we will be saying hello to a new group of lovely sponsors on the side bar and a new sponsorship program! I'll be making the change to monthly sponsorships so that you all get time to be seen. I think it will be a much better way to keep track of all of you that wait for sponsorships to open up as well. This does mean that sponsor packages will change, and I'm working on the details of that now. If you want to renew or are a giveaway winner, your sponsorship will not change until the expiration date previously discussed, that way there is no confusion. I hope that I'll be seeing new faces buzzing around here at The Busy Bee!

Toddler Sewing Basket!

Wednesday, February 20, 2013

This year for my daughter's birthday I decided to hold off on tons of store bought toys and hand make some fun toys and activities that she could enjoy. Since handi-skills such as sewing are important to learn for a young child and since I'm a crafty lady myself  I decided to throw together a craft/sewing basket that was appropriate for young ones. Marli is always watching me crochet and embroider and wants to take part in what I'm doing...but let's just face it, when you're stitching away the last thing you want is your three year old all up in your grill. This little basket is the perfect solution (or so I hope) to keeping her entertained while she learns vital skills. I found similar ideas to this all over Pinterest and drew from a few of their ideas and from activities done in Montessori schools. I can't wait until she digs in on her birthday, oh how exciting! You can change your basket up depending on what your kid is interested in and add more and more items as their skills increase. If you make a sewing basket for your little let me know how it goes over in your home!
What's In My Basket:
Basket or Bin to put everything up in.
Plastic Embroidery Hoop
Large Plastic Yarn Needle
A Few Small Balls of Yarn
Rick Rack
Embroidery Thread
A Few FQ of Fabric
Pipe Cleaners
Mason Jar
Wooden Spools
Rubber Kitchen Drawer Liner
Crochet Flower
Pom Poms

There are a bunch of fun activities that can come from this basket! The embroidery hoop and drawer liner make a perfect canvas for your little to experiment stitching on and the holes are big enough for them to see. You could also turn your hoop into the perfect tool to teach weaving! The mason jar, pipe cleaners, and wooden spools make up a very fun Montessori activity that teaches how to thread, but using huge wooden beads would be fun too! I can see a lot of pipe cleaner jewelry coming my way! There are so many ways to make this basket perfect for your little one.
