Guilty Musical Pleasures.

My friend Allison and I were discussing guilty pleasures via twitter and we decided to share some of our guiltiest musical pleasures for you all to enjoy. Don't laugh guys, this may get intense!
I'm a huge fan of the oldies and more folk indie music, no surprise there right? But what you may not know is that I'm a true O.G. at heart. That's right, I said it, I freaking love rap. Tupac, Snoop, DMX, N.W.A, Public Enemy, Missy Elliot, Eve, Dr.Dre, Ice T, Busta, Too $hort, Ludacris, Nas, Lil Kim, and Jay-Z all have huge places in my heart and my ITunes (just to name a few)! If you are one of my close friends or happen to find me out at a bar with my lady pals you will most definitely witness the greatness that is my rap skills. My friends will vouch that this is all completely legit. I usually do a little Ignition the Remix on Karaoke night...gosh I feel guilty just telling you guys that I sing R. Kelly songs, ahh! Well I might as well embarrass myself a little more so here it goes!

DIE ANTWOORD
We might as well start off with the weirdest of my guilty pleasures. Ninja and Yolandi Vi$$er along with DJ HI -Tech make up the techno rage/rap group that is Die Antwoord. After hearing the duo for the first time I was immediately drawn to the zef side. I love their eclectic mix of South African culture and old gangster rap not to mention that their look is pretty nasty and I mean that in the best way. They may be vulgar, have rats for pets, and smoke huge amounts of a certain illegal but naturally growing substance but the way they rap is absolutely mind blowing, definitely next level shit. If you are brave go bump to fok julle naaiers but be warned!

KREYSHAWN
This Oakland  native has mad kawaii style and rhyme skills to boot. Whenever I'm in a goofy mood or out with my best friend we usually bump Gucci Gucci and I literally don't miss a word. I love that she's comical and fun and when I'm listening to her I feel like a rebellious teenager once again. Did I already mention that I want her entire wardrobe?

NELLY
If you are from or grew up in St. Louis you basically have no choice but to love Nelly and the St. Lunatics. When you're out at the bars you will hear Country Grammar and every person around will start rapping and waving their hands in the air like they just don't care...and they don't. I was actually neighbors with one of the Lunatics, can you believe that? I love St. Louis and I love that Nelly has stuck around and contributed to the community here. He will always be one of my guilty pleasures.

KELIS
source.
If Milkshake and Bossy don't completely explain why Kelis is one of my rap/hip hop guilty pleasures then I don't know what will. Catchy lyrics, catchy beats...what's not to love? Plus I always get a lovely visual of Peter Griffin every time I hear "My milkshake brings all the boys to the yard."

WILL SMITH
source.
Big Willie Style was one of my first "rap" cds. I don't know if Will is considered a rapper anymore but he definitely changed the game! I'm pretty sure his albums are some of the most played on my iTunes and when 'Gettin' Jiggy Wit It' comes on in the car I do the dance with no shame and embarrass my husband and the people passing by us. Yea, I do that...a lot. He's handsome, intelligent, an amazing actor, and he can make it bump, I can always dig on that.

I have so many other guilty musical pleasures but narrowing it down to rap made it a little easier to choose. I could go on for days with my love for 90's pop and random one hit wonder artists like Snow but then where would it end? My musical taste is all over the place, it's insane!
What are some of your guilty pleasures when it comes to music? Come embarrass yourself with us!

  1. Haha holy crap - it's like reading guilty pleasures straight out the back of my mind! I hate that I love these artists but I just can't help myself! Haha. The ignition remix is totally my jam. Ask my boyfriend about my little in the car dance routine to it ;)

  3. One of my favorite guilty pleasures is the first CD I got as a kid. It was Joey Lawrence! I still have it and the original case. Every so often I have a listen to its awesomely bad songs.

  6. I love Kreayshawn. My friends and I found Lil Debbie, which lead us to Riff Raff and Kreayshawn and now, not a day goes by that we don't watch those videos. It's just fun music to listen to.
