Thrifty Thursday // I found a cure!

Thursday, May 30, 2013

It's Thrifty Thursday again, oh yay! If you're a new reader here is the low down. Sandra from Anchors and Honey and myself host this link party twice a month for all of our fellow thrift store junkies to show off our finds. If you are unprepared or new to the game you can link up past post that showed off some of your goodies! Then jump around and see everyone's awesome stuff! It can be clothing, books, housewares, ect. anything you've thrifted is alright with us!
Last time we linked up I mentioned that I was in a thrift slump, well guys, some how I miraculously found a cure and went overboard the last couple of weeks! I hopped around Craigslist, Goodwill, thrift shops, and even did a few trades via Instagram and wound up with so many amazing items! I decided just to show off the small house ware items because I'm leaving my three furniture hauls a mystery until we get them into the house and you can see them in all of their glory. A little hint, I went MCM crazy!
I've been mainly thrifting for Pyrex since my vintage store is on hiatus and my husband says I have enough glasses and dishes to serve a dinner party of 100, such a party pooper. Here are some of my latest treasures!

1.// I went butterprint wild and even found an orange butterprint for a steal. 2.// I love this bluebird piece with the original cradle and lid. Guess what guys, original box too! All my Pyrex hoarders know how exciting that is.  3.// I scoured this beautiful floral Mikasa set at goodwill, I feel like I need to have a tea party now. 4.// I ran across this beautiful flamingo pink and two yellow hostess bowls,  now I just need to start my aqua stash! 5.// These beauties came from an insta-trade and I'm so happy it was so smooth and successful for both of us! You can never have enough friendship Pyrex, and this one even has the printed lid! 6.// Fridgie heaven!

Fresh Garden Flat Bread.

Monday, May 27, 2013

Happy Memorial day for those of you in the States! Recently I had a small dinner party with a few of my friends and I struggled to find a quick and filling appetizer that would keep me out of the kitchen and stress free. Finally I decided that a flat bread was the answer. Flat breads are low prep, easy to cook, and fully customizable, the perfect little dish for every occasion! I wanted to keep my appetizer on the light side so I chose ingredients that were fresh and delicious. Veggies are always a great choice when you don't want to be stuffed before you even reach your main course. This flat bread fit the bill and was a perfect compliment to the pink moscato party that was already raging in my belly.
If you try out this recipe let me know and get crazy with the ingredients! You can add as little or as much as you like and if you're wanting your flat bread as a main course you can always add meat to make it more hearty!

What You'll Need:

1 box of Jiffy pizza dough, or you can make your dough from scratch using this recipe.
Shredded Monterrey Cheese
Feta Cheese
Honey Goat Cheese
Spinach Leaves
Red Onion, finely chopped
Golden Cherry Tomatoes, Sliced
Zia's Sweet Italian Dressing, or other sweet Italian vinaigrette.
Preheat your over to 350 degrees. Prepare your flat bread crust according to the recipe on the box or your own recipe. After the dough is ready, on a well floured surface roll out your dough until it is nice and thin but has no holes or tears. Then transfer your dough onto a pizza stone or in my case, a baking sheet with a good ole layer of aluminum foil for easy clean up. I let my dough sit on top of the preheating oven while I prepared the rest of my ingredients, this way it has a little time to set and you don't have to pre-bake your crust.

Chop all of your veggies into bit size pieces, I don't give exact measurements because everyone likes things a little differently. I like to go crazy with the red onion but I'm sure there are plenty of you that aren't the biggest onion fans, I respect you guys.
After your ingredients are ready it's topping time! My favorite part!
Coat your entire flat bread crust with a thin layer of finely shredded Monterrey cheese making sure that you cover all the way out to the very edge. Unless you really like a lot of crust I suggest you cover that baby good because your dough will expand. Then, sprinkle on your desired amount of Feta cheese or bleu cheese if you prefer, again, it's all about you.
Next add your veggies, I started with the cherry tomato and went from edge to edge making sure that every bite would have all of the yummy flavors involved. I then added a massive amount of red onion, which of course you can adjust to your liking. Sprinkle your spinach on next, remember to be evenly distributing all of your ingredients! I topped the whole think off with a nice amount of crumbled honey goat cheese, you know I'm a huge fan of that! I used it in my Cherokee Street knock off recipe as well, yum!
I did a little sprinkle of fresh cracked black pepper and then popped it into the oven for about 10 minutes. Time may vary depending on your altitude and oven, you know, all that scientific cooking stuff. I like to just guesstimate and check on it frequently. When your crust is looking a golden and your cheese is melted you're ready to remove your flat bread and let it cool!
To add a little extra kick I drizzled the flat bread with Zia's Sweet Italian dressing which is a local treat, but I'm sure there are plenty of yummy Italian vinaigrette that would compliment this flat bread perfectly!

Now cut with a pizza cutter and enjoy a yummy and fresh semi-homemade flat bread with your best mates and a bottle of wine (or two).
ENJOY!

A Night Out// Marina and the Diamonds

Monday, May 20, 2013

Friday night Jared and I went to see Marina and the Diamonds at The Pageant in St. Louis. We had a fantastic time getting out and seeing a show since we haven't seen one in months. Charlie XCX opened, which was really fun. I haven't heard to much of her music but she sounded really great live and she dressed like a mixture of Ginger Spice and Vitamin C, very 90's child fabulous. Marina was definitely a show stopper. She sings amazing live, almost album quality and her outfits were to die for as usual. We chose to sit on the balcony because most people attending were under 21 and the pit was insanely packed. I fell in love with her all over again after seeing her show so I figured it would be a perfect Music Monday playlist! If you haven't heard Marina and the Diamonds before take a listen!

Photos brought to you by my lovely husband, I can't be serious when he is behind the camera.

I hope that you all had a splendid Mother's Day weekend! Jared took me out for a wonderful date night on Friday night to celebrate Mother's Day and to get me out of the house! All the boxes and piles of our junk really have me going stir crazy so I was so thankful to get to spend some one on one time with my hubby. We went and did a little thrifting, followed by a very exciting trip to Lowe's to pick out paint colors and light fixtures for the new house, and we ended the night with a huge tray of sushi and some wine at one of our favorite local places! It's hard to plan date nights when you're a pair of homebodies with two young kids, but I thought we had a pretty good time. It does sound exciting, doesn't it?
I went pretty simple with my date night outfit, I'm usually found in jeans, so this was definitely a step up. Dresses are just so impractical when you're running after a toddler and a four year old, so I dug this from the back of my closet and threw on my favorite new shoes and we ran out the door, no turning back. I clean up pretty nicely, well at least I think so!
What did you do for your momma this weekend? Anything extraordinary or extra exciting?

For the love of crafting.

Sunday, May 5, 2013

Since I returned from vacation and started with our new home journey I have had absolutely no time for crafting of any kind. You can probably imagine that this has been making me super depressed, especially since I bought some really great yarn on my trip. I've just been staring at all of my new skeins in agony, why oh why?! Putting my projects on hold is for a good cause of course, I need to pack my whole life away and sometimes crocheting and knitting can be quite the distraction from the tasks that are urgent. So this week's inspirations are to fulfill my need to get my craft on and give me ideas for future projects. I also threw in a little craft room inspiration for when we do move and I have my very own space to work! Enjoy!

CELEBRATE GOOD TIMES, COME ON!

Friday, May 3, 2013

I mentioned yesterday that life has been crazy lately and  I had a pretty big announcement to make here on the blog so here it is. The Bee's have purchased their very own hive! Buying our first home has been a long time coming and we are so excited that we finally found the perfect first home for our family. I feel like it's all happened so quickly and it's really been a rush that hasn't quite sunk in yet. We have been running round like chickens with our heads cut off trying to pack, meeting with inspectors and lenders, and preparing the kids for the big changes that are coming in the next few months. I cannot wait to have those keys in my hand and leave our tiny little apartment behind. Thank you to all of you who have sent us well wishes and congratulations, it means the world to us that everyone is just as excited as we are! This also means that my home tour series will continue in our new home and that I will finally have an office to call my own, things are going to get super legit here on the blog! Are you pumped or what?!

1.// A little preview of our new home! I cant wait to get my hands on it! 2.// We started packing this week and our apartment look so strange with bare walls! 3&4.// I jumped in on the #babymuggin train via Instagram! If you have kiddos join in, it's so hilarious! 5.// Mint Chocolate Chip yarn love. 6.// I did a few samples for a geometric blanket that I'm starting for Hunter, these colors will be in his new room! 7.// The little guy fighting nap time as usual. 8.// "Hey look mommy, I'm a panda bear!" 9.// We bought the littles a customizable ukulele and it has been a big hit around here. 10.// My first order from the wonderful Knit Picks arrived and I'm obsessed with the feel of this yarn, it's like a dream! 11.// The family had a Gyro picnic in the living room this week, boy was that yummy! 12.// If you've never shopped at Typo, I suggest you go now, but I warn you, your wallet will be screaming for mercy. 13.// This little smile always makes my day!

Thrift Slump Sadness.

Thursday, May 2, 2013

Wow! Twenty two weeks of thriftiness and I've hit a slump! I haven't made it out much due to my vacation and recent personal events that have kept me so busy. I'll announce all the craziness soon here on the blog, but if you follow me on instagram or twitter you've probably already heard about the big changes coming in the next few months for my little family. I did make a flea market trip a little while ago and I found some amazing treasures and I also received some happy Pyrex mail, so that is what I'm sharing with you all today! I hope that your thrifting ventures have been successful, link up all your goodies for us to see! Also visit Sandra at Anchors and Honey and see all the thrifty goodness that she has found recently!

Lately my vision has been taking a turn for the worse. I don't know if my countless hours crocheting, knitting, and embroidering  have finally caught up with me but I feel blind! I've had glasses for a while now and I think it's time for a new prescription and a new pair of glasses to make my eyes feel happy again. I have a hard time finding frames that I actually like, most glasses look the same now days and I want something fun and different. Thank goodness I remembered The Vintage Optical Shop, vintage is always the answer! VOS has an amazing selection of beautiful and unique vintage frames full of fun and kitsch-y flare. I really had a hard time picking favorites because there are so many great pairs to chose from! Here are some of my top picks, just to name a few!

Which pair are your favorites? Would you be brave enough to rock the cat eye style?
