Surviving the Icepocalypse

Sunday, January 15, 2017

This weekend the Midwest was supposed to be hit with one of the worst ice storms we've seen in ten years so we planned a weekend inside away from the elements. We've seen  a little ice and some chilly temperatures but nothing worthy of the hype it got all week...still waiting though! I've been spending as much of my free time as possible knitting lately so when the little babe went down for a nap you better believe I got out my yarn and settled with with a cup of coffee and a project or two. I'm hoping I can wrap up the piece on my needles by the end of the long weekend because I have new yarn on its way to me and I'm excited to use it. Yarn can be so addicting! I have so many skeins lying around and it is always so hard to decide what project to tackle with it. The woes of a crafter!
I love cozy weekends in with no plans and plenty of time to dedicate to my hobbies. I rush around all week long so when I have the time and the backup in the form of my lovely husband I try to treat myself and take advantage! If there is a positive to dreary weather it's that it gives you an excuse to stay in your pj's and enjoy some down time!  Here's a little peek at my long weekend:
spinning - Rage Against The Machine

knitting - I've been whipping up these easy knit wash cloths a lot lately!

diffusing - Peppermint and Citrus Fresh Young Living Essential Oils

eating - I saw this quick and easy artisan bread recipe on Facebook and it's been our go-to snack all weekend. Add Asiago cheese on the top, you won't be sorry!

drinking -  Sumatra Dark Coffee

enjoying - A little peace and quiet, a little self care goes a long way!

Real Food // Breastfeeding Fuel.

Saturday, January 14, 2017

I have been exclusively breastfeeding Luna for three and a half months now and if I've learned anything it's that water and supply/energy boosting snacks are a must have for any nursing momma. This is my third time breastfeeding and it has definitely been my most successful attempt thanks to these little bites full of supply boosting ingredients like flax seeds, oats, and healthy fats. Breastfeeding in itself is a hard task, so whipping up a snack that also ups your supply should be super easy! While nursing I don't just get hungry, I get hannnngryyyyyyy and snack time cannot wait. These no-bake treats are easy to prepare in under ten minutes and everyone in the whole family will enjoy them. My kids love helping me mix all of the ingredients together and I love that they are enjoying a healthy snack disguised as desert. Everyone is happy!
The best part about these bites is that they are so easy to customize! You can add all kinds of mix-ins to really make them your own. My kids have named these the pb&j flavor because of the peanut butter and dried berries, but you could add dates, nuts, and even almond butter to name a few.
2 cups peanut butter
2 cups rolled oats
2 tbsp raw honey
1/2 cup dark chocolate chips
1/4 cup flax seeds
1/4 cup dried berries
1/4 cup sunflower seeds
1 tsp vanilla

In a bowl mix all of your ingredients together with a wooden spoon until well combined.
Roll 2 tablespoon sized balls out in your hand and then place on parchment paper. Place in the refrigerator to set or enjoy right away. I know sometimes snacking can't wait! After your bites have set transfer them to an airtight container and enjoy for up to two weeks...if they last that long!
If you try out this recipe let me know what you think!
Have you ever tried lactation cookies or bites? Did they help increase your supply?

Cold Weather Diffuser Oil Blend.

Sunday, January 8, 2017

Winter is here and it seems like my essential oil stash always gets more use when the cold weather hits. Diffusing oils is one of the easiest ways to start using essential oils, so if you're a beginner and not sure how to start using your oils this one is for you! If you're already a pro then you know that there are so many diffuser blends it's almost overwhelming. You can find everything from headache relievers to blends that smell like gingerbread cookies! I love to diffuse warm and spicy scents during the cold months, so this blend is always my go to. The hint of citrus is my favorite part, it makes my whole house smell so cozy. I also love the immune boosting qualities of the oils in this blend, perfect for keeping all the winter bugs away!

Each essential oil hold it's own magical powers, the oils in this blend are great for:
enhancing your immune system
boosting your mood
kicking stress to the curb
helping to keep seasonal sicknesses away
To make this blend combine the following oils in your diffuser:
2 drops Thieves Essential Oil
3 drops Frankincense Essential Oil
2-3 drops Orange Essential Oil
Let me know if you try this blend out, i'd love to know what you think!
What are some of your favorite essential oil blends to diffuse around the house?

Baby Faves // Winter Wear.

Tuesday, January 3, 2017

When I found out I was pregnant with a fall/winter baby I was so excited to start shopping for clothes! Baby knits, warm hats, and tons of layers not only make baby feel cozy, they are cute as heck! Knitwear for babies is a little pricey, so I love stocking up on gender neutral pieces that I can keep and hand down. Brands like Rylee and Cru have some of the cutest knit pieces, I've especially been swooning over their bonnets and bloomers. Etsy also has so many great small businesses that sell knitwear, it's hard to choose my favorite shop! I've been keeping a little wishlist on my Baby Pinterest board because there were just too many cute pieces to keep track of.
Here are some of my current favorite winter baby picks:

What is your favorite shop for winter baby essentials? Leave a comment and let me know, I always love discovering new shops and small businesses!
