4 Simple Fall Essential Oil Room Sprays

Monday, September 18, 2017

One of my favorite ways to incorporate essential oils into my daily rhythm is with the use of room and linen sprays. They are a breeze to whip up, they leave your house smelling divine without the harmful ingredients, and they really stretch your essential oil stash! I love to make seasonal blends to really get into the spirit of things so the minute the leaves started changing here in the Midwest I was whipping up spicy, warm fall scents to spray around the house! I use these little sprays in our bathrooms, bedrooms, and sometimes I even spray them all over myself because who doesn't want to smell like the best season of the year?!

These little room sprays are so simple to put together, even the most anti-diy person can whip them up pain free but first here are the ingredients you'll need and a few tips to help get you started!

WHAT YOU'LL NEED:

Amber Glass Spray Bottles//
Because essential oils pack a powerful punch you'll want to store them in glass, not plastic. Essential Oils can break down plastic and that could contaminate your oils and make a mess. The dark glass ensures a long and happy shelf life from your precious oils.

Distilled Water//
Because of the impurities in tap water you'll want to use distilled so that your sprays stay fresh and don't start to lose their fragrance over time.

Witch Hazel//
Adding this ingredient helps the essential oils and water bind together. You could also use a pinch of salt or a splash of coconut oil.

Essential Oils//
Using the best of the best is so important when it comes to essential oils. The FDA doesn't regulate the market so a lot of the times oils that you buy on the super market shelves and online are made from artificial fragrances and chemicals, not pure essential oils after all. Impure essential oils can actually work against your health, they are made from all the yucky stuff you're trying to avoid by reaching for oils in the first place. Our family has chosen Young Living because they have an amazing seed to seal standard and after years of trying all the oils they were our most reach for time and time again. You can read more about YL oils here.

Label Maker//
This one isn't a must have but it's super duper handy and will help you keep track of all of your sprays! I purchased this one off of amazon and it's been a definite game changer.
ORCHARD MIST// (a favorite for the loo)
Add to a 2 oz. amber glass bottle:
1 tbs witch hazel or carrier oil
20 drops Bergamot
15 drops Orange
10 drops Cedarwood
Fill the rest up with distilled water.
Shake and enjoy!

SEASONAL SPICE//(basically heaven)
Add to a 2 oz. amber glass bottle:
1 tbs witch hazel or carrier oil
20 drops Thieves
10 drops Cinnamon Bark
5 drops Clove
10 drops Orange
Fill the rest up with distilled water.
Shake and enjoy!

FLANNEL SHIRT//(on all the sweaters and blankets)
Add to a 2 oz. amber glass bottle:
1 tbs witch hazel or carrier oil
10 drops Northern Lights Black Spruce
20 drops Stress Away
10 drops Cedarwood
Fill the rest up with distilled water.
Shake and enjoy!

MULLED CIDER//(i'm such a cider girl, this is a fave!)
Add to a 2 oz. amber glass bottle:
1 tbs witch hazel or carrier oil
20 drops Orange
15 drops Ginger
10 drops Cinnamon Bark
Fill the rest up with distilled water.
Shake and enjoy!
Don't ask me to pick a favorite! My kiddos even like to mix and match them when they spray their rooms. Get creative with your oils and create your own sprays too!

Let me know if you try these, i'd love to know how you liked them!

The Power of Attention.

Friday, September 1, 2017

Happy September, friends! We spent our day soaking in beautiful, fall like weather and a quote that I love came to mind so I thought I would share it with you here today. Mindfulness is something that I have a deep love for and I try my best to practice it daily. For some, slowing down and tuning in comes more naturally, for others...(basically me) it becomes a practice that we have to infuse into our daily lives. I have certain moments in my day blocked out for my mindfulness practice and that helps me make sure i'm slowing down and focusing on what's most important. I'll share more about my mindfulness practice later in the month and give you a few easy and practical tips that help me be a little more intentional every day.
For now I leave you with this quote to chew on. It is a beautiful reminder to nurture our life and relationships through being intentional and awake in our daily lives. Enjoy!
"The secret of beginning a life of deep awareness and sensitivity lies in our willingness to pay attention. Our growth as conscious, awake human beings is marked not so much by grand gestures and visible renunciations as by extending loving attention to the minutest particulars of our lives. Every relationship, every thought, every gesture is blessed with meaning through the wholehearted attention we bring to it. In the complexities of our minds and lives we easily forget the power of attention, yet without attention we live only on the surface of existence. It is just simple attention that allows us truly to listen to the song of a bird, to see deeply the glory of an autumn leaf, to touch the heart of another and be touched. We need to be fully present in order to love a single thing wholeheartedly. We need to be fully awake in this moment if we are to receive and respond to the learning inherent in it."
-  Christina Feldman and Jack Kornfield, Stories of the Spirit, Stories of the Heart
My favorite piece of this quote is this line:
"Every relationship, every thought, every gesture is blessed with meaning through the wholehearted attention we bring to it."
It is amazing how much our relationships and our minds can bloom when we just show them a little love and devotion.

How will you pay attention today?
