Berry Picking: a Summer Tradition.

Sunday, July 22, 2018

Today we took a trip out to a local farm to gather baskets of blackberries and peaches for summer desserts and preserves. This has become one of our favorite family activities to do during the summer and it keeps us busy in the kitchen for week or two, making sweet treats and canning goods to enjoy through out the cold months. There is nothing better than picking your own berries straight from the bush and i think our kids would agree, they put more berries in their mouths than in our baskets! By the end of the morning they were all stained with berry juice and sticky but their little hearts were so content.
Days like these remind me how simple and breezy childhood can be. No need to plug in or over do it with toys. Their hearts were so full just being outside, feeling the sun shine on their skin, filling their bellies with warm berries and peaches grabbed right off the tree.
I hope these are the days they remember when they grow older.

A trip out West.

Last month we took our family on a road trip to visit national parks in both Colorado and Utah. We spent two weeks exploring some of the most amazing landscapes and natural land formations in our country and left with such a sense of wonder and gratitude for this earth we live on. We soaked in precious time together, exploring the world and learning through experiences that no book can recreate. Traveling with kids has always seemed like a daunting task, especially a longer trip with a lot of stops and very little rhythm but they all did great and we ended up having the best time, even with a few mishaps along the way!
If you ever get the chance to visit Arches or run in the desert with your children, do it.
Absolutely do it.
This trip was exactly what we needed to get away and recharge together. to learn together. to create unforgettable memories together.
I will cherish them always.
Here are a few of my favorite snapshots from our trip:
